Gypsy Donut and Espresso Bar
This is a local doughnut shop in Nyack, New York. My boys were recently treated to their maple bacon doughnut by my brother. They raved about this doughnut so much, that I thought National Doughnut day, was just the day to give it a try. So I took a ride and bought some doughnuts. The bacon doughnut, to my surprise was completely covered with 3 long pieces of bacon. I was expecting a sprinkling of chopped bacon. This is a serious bacon doughnut. The doughnut was great! I don’t think you can mess up bacon. I will say the doughnut was a little denser than a traditional yeast doughnut but this did not bother me.
Besides the bacon doughnut, we also tried the salted caramel doughnut and the pina colada doughnut. Oh, my, gosh!! Both were so good! The salted caramel is definitely my favorite with black salt sprinkled over the caramel syrup. It is a little messy but it is worth it. The pina colada was just as good, but I will say it is a large square shaped doughnut that is raised so high, I had trouble opening my mouth wide enough to get it all in (although I did). It was stuffed with a pineapple custard and coated with a coconut/pineapple glaze. Delicious!
All in all, I think the doughnuts were creative and fun to eat. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
